ヨセミテ国立公園大好き！／Yosemite.jp

Inyo County山火事の跡

ヨセミテ関連ではありませんが、三週間前、CA395号の閉鎖にも到ったInyo Complex Fireの跡を
見ることができました。ここはIndependenceの町の西側Onion Valley Road、Seven Pinesキャンプ場の西1マイル付近の写真です。灌木の生い茂った斜面は全て焼け焦げていました。

Tioga Pass Web Cam

ハイシエラの、日々の様子を知るのにたいへんお世話になるTioga PassのWebカムですが、
今日はそのお礼に写真公開させていただきます。

写真(料金所)中央の枯れ木に注目すると、

高級そうなカメラが付いています。

Tuolumne Meadows

ハイシエラはかなりドライになってきています。Tuolumne Meadowsの草の半分近くは、茶色くなってしまいました。Tioga Pass付近のRed/White Heatherのシーズンは既に終わり、完全に枯れきっています。そのかわり、蚊には全く遭遇しませんでした。

Tuolumne MeadowsのSoda Springs近くに「Parsons Memorial Lodge」という石組みの小屋があります。
この建物は1915年にシエラクラブによって建てられたものです。
現在は夏の期間に行われる講演シリーズ「Parsons Memorial Lodge Summer Series」の会場として使われています。
この夏のプログラムをご案内します。
いずれも無料で、時間特記のないものは午後2時から約1時間のプログラムです。
クルマの方はTMビジターセンターもしくはランバートドーム下Pから徒歩になります。（所要時間20〜30分）

The National Park Service will once again host the annual Parsons Memorial Lodge Summer Series beginning July 15th with weekend programs through August 26th, 2007.

The Parsons Summer Series is sponsored by the National Park Service, Yosemite Association, Loralee Tucker Hiramoto Memorial Fund, Friends of Parsons Lodge, Institute for Law and Systems Research, and Poets & Writers, Inc through a grant from the James Irvine Foundation and, though inadvertently omitted from the previous e-news, the Hearst Foundation.

汗臭い足の匂い？ランの新種発表

　米国カリフォルニア州のヨセミテ国立公園だけに自生する、独特の匂いを放つランが新種であることが分かり、16日カリフォルニア州植物学会誌Madronoに発表された。
　研究者らの発表によると、「ヨセミテ湿地ラン」(Yosemite bog-orchid)と呼ばれるランは、正式名がPlatanthera yosemitensisで、夏の間6mm程度の小さな黄色い花をつけるが、授粉のために昆虫をひきつけるのはむしろ“汗臭い足”のような強烈な匂いだという。この植物は、ヨセミテ国立公園内の９カ所で見つかっていて、高度1830mから2740ｍ、水がわく湿地帯に自生している。このランが初めて採取された記録は1923年だったが、最近になって押し花収集が植物学者の手に渡り、カリフォルニア州内のどのランにも似ていなかったことから調査が始まり、今月になって新種と認められた。希少な植物であることから、自生する詳しい場所は公表されていない。
　ランは自然界で最も多くの種類を持つ植物で、世界で3万種ほどが見つかっている。

Tioga Road付近

Crane FlatとPorcupine Flat間での、ワイルドフラワーのピークはすでに過ぎてしまったようです。Olmsted Point付近では、マウンテンプライドは枯れて、代わりにペイントブラシがわずかに咲いていました。Inyo Complex火災の煙の影響は特に見られませんでしたが、ヨセミテクリーク上流部(Tioga Roadの北側)には、落雷が原因と思われる小さな火災が発生していました。Big Oak Flat料金所の午後の渋滞は、数十台程度でした。

Inyo NFの火事

先週金曜、落雷により発生したInyo Complex Fireが鎮火に向かっています。しかしながら、東シエラの山々に向かう道路や、キャンプ地などが閉鎖していますので、出かける前にはチェックしてください。またいくつかのトレイルヘッドも閉鎖しています。

Full Containment Expected: July 11, 2007

A lightning storm moved quickly through the Eastern Sierra Friday afternoon, July 6, 2007, igniting approximately 10 fires, which are being managed as the “Inyo Complex”. As of 8:00 am Saturday, July 7, 2007 the three largest fires still actively burning are the Oak Fire burning west and north of the Town of Independence and on both sides of US 395. The Seven Fire is burning west and north of the Town of Independence and the Sage Fire, which is burning in Big Pine Canyon. On July 7, 2007 Southern California Interagency Incident Management Team 3 assumed command of the fire and remain in unified command with CalFire.

On July 7, 2007 the western portion of the Town of Independence was evacuated for several hours (approx. 200 residents) as the town was immediately threatened. Approximately, 20 residents were evacuated to Statham Hall in Lone Pine, CA. The remainder of the evacuated residents sought refuge with friends and relatives in nearby towns and the Diaz Lake Area.

Firefighters continue to make excellent progress constructing containment line and mopping up hot spots especially, in the areas adjacent to the communities of Big Pine and Independence. Firefighters will continue to be vigilant and alert for new fire starts as thunderstorms and lightning are predicted.

Residents may continue to see smoke from this fire. Smoke impacts in the Eastern Sierra currently are mild. Fire apparatus traveling in and through communities and US 395 may impact residents and the traveling public.

Oak Creek Campground, Onion Valley, Baker Creek, Black Rock and Mt Whitney Fish Hatcheries all remain closed

Big Pine Canyon Campgrounds

Bernasconi Center
Glacier Pack Trains have been re-opened.

Trail Closures:
Most trailheads remain closed and wilderness permits are not being issued for trails between Big Pine and Independence.
Backpackers and hikers exiting at these trailheads are being escorted out of the area

熊横断に注意

以前は、白い紙に赤い線で描いた熊の絵が、ロードマーカーに貼ってありましたが、つい最近新しいサインボードに変わったようです。最初遠目に見たときは、『牛の横断に注意』サインかと思いました。このサインがおいてある場所と、レーダーによるスピード違反取り締まりスポットは高い相関があるのでご注意。

Tuolumne Meadows

Tuolumne Meadows[写真上]をはじめ、日当たりがよく、水はけが良い土壌の草は、一部黄色くなり始めたような気がしました。ハイカントリーはワイルドフラワーのシーズンです。Tioga Road沿いはルピナスやマウンテンプライド[写真中]が多く見られました。

9,000ft.以上の湿地帯、クリーク、湖沿いには、紫、黄色、白、赤と、様々な色の花が咲き乱れていました。Mt. Dana頂上直下の、スカイパイロット[写真下]の群生も今が見ごろかも。

蚊は一部にいましたが、蚊よけがなくとも気にするほどではなさそうです。

Tioga Pass Resortのカフェ

　ヨセミテ国立公園のタイオガ・パス・ゲートを出て、そのまま１２０号を２マイルほど行くと、左手に「タイオガ・パス・リゾート」が見えます。ここのカフェは、名物おじさんが一人で作る各種フルーツ・パイで有名なのですが、カウンター席１０席ほどテーブル席６席と、とても小さく、夏のピーク時の午後７時頃には長い列ができたりします。このカフェで、当サイトの執筆者でもあるスノーボーダー、Nanaeさんが月曜日と金曜日の午後２時以降、働いておられます。夕食は午後５時からやっていて、この時間なら列もあまりないと思うので、ハイカントリーでの夕食は是非、こちらへ！

高温＋日射の警報

ヨセミテ＋カリフォルニアセントラルバレーでは今週、高温＋日射の警報が出ています。
帽子やサングラス、日焼け止めの準備と長時間高温＋日射の場所にいることをさけること。
水分を沢山とり、アルコールやカフェインの飲料をさけること。
など、対策することで日射病や熱中症をふせぐことができます。
どうぞ、気をつけてお出かけください。

AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL STRENGTHEN OVER THE WESTERN UNITED STATES THIS WEEK. THIS WILL BRING A SIGNIFICANT WARMING TREND TO CENTRAL CALIFORNIA BEGINNING TUESDAY. TEMPERATURES IN THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY AND SOME FOOTHILL LOCATIONS WILL REACH THE CENTURY MARK ON TUESDAY. TEMPERATURES OF 104 TO 112 DEGREES ARE EXPECTED FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY AND THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK.

THE MOUNTAINS WILL ALSO EXPERIENCE THE HOT CONDITIONS WITH TEMPERATURES CLIMBING INTO THE 90S AT 5000 FEET... AND INTO THE 80S AT 8000 FEET. THE WARMEST LOCATIONS AT OR BELOW 5000 FEET COULD SEE HIGHS IN THE 100 TO 105 DEGREE RANGE WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

THE KERN COUNTY DESERT AREAS WILL REACH TEMPERATURES OF 100 TO 111 DEGREES TUESDAY...THEN BE IN THE 105 TO 115 DEGREE RANGE THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK.

WITH THE INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY THIS WEEK...PEOPLE WILL NEED TO EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. TEMPERATURES WILL BE WELL ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS THE REGION...WITH NEAR RECORD TEMPERATURES FORECAST IN SOME LOCATIONS...IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER SOME HEAT RELATED SAFETY TIPS.

REMEMBER YOUR PETS...THEY NEED FRESH DRINKING WATER AND NEED TO BE PROTECTED FROM THE HEAT AS WELL.

CHECK ON RELATIVES OR ELDERLY NEIGHBORS DURING PERIODS OF HEAT.

Cathedral Lakes付近

Cathedral Lakes付近は緑が綺麗でした。トレイル沿いにはルピナスが咲き始まりました。
Upper Cathedral Lakeの上部(樹林限界)にはRed Heather、White Heatherが咲き誇っていました。蚊は水場の近くにいたものの、気になるほど多くはありませんでした。Tioga Roadの交通量は多く、Tenaya Lake周辺には多くの車が止まっていました。White Wolfのキャビンに空きのサインが出ていましたが、何故かヨセミテクリークのキャンプ地は『Full』、となっていました。
