SUNSET AFTER A STORM, YOSEMITE VALLEY, CALIFORNIA; 1970

20101120
“First, the two most striking granite forms of the valley, Half Dome and El Capitan, appeared side by side , although they are actually at opposite ends of the valley. Second, each was lit with splendid, but very different, light. Together, the two factors gave the formations the separate character they have in real life, an effect that doesn’t usually come across in photos. Usually, images show the great rocks lit in similar light as part of a two-dimensional scene, thereby failing to convey the power of the landscape, which I saw coming alive. With El Capitan in red sunset light and Half Dome in blue shadow under a cloud, this image is a kind of visual archetype of the Yosemite experience.”
左上から時計回りに「Mountain Light」(初版1986年、これは1995年 Sierra Club Books版)、「THE YOSEMITE」(1989年、Sierra Club Books版)、「THE YOSEMITE」(2001年, YA版)、「California THE BEAUTIFUL」(2002年、Welcome Books版)です。
