ヨセミテの東、イースタンシエラのホワイトマウンテン周辺に生息する「ブリッスルコーン・パイン」という樹種は地球上で最も長生きと言われていて、「Methuselah」と名づけられた木は4781歳であると確認されています。一見「枯れ木」のようにも見え、ゆっくりとした成長をするこの木も、気温上昇の影響を受けて、近年の年輪が太くなっていることが確認されています。

シェルトン・ジョンソン氏が「National Freeman Tilden Award」を受賞

National Association for Interpretation(NAI；インタープリテーション協会)が優秀なインタープリターに授与する賞「National Freeman Tilden Award」をヨセミテ国立公園レンジャーのShelton Johnsonが受賞しました。

ジョンソン氏はNPS（国立公園局）には数少ないアフリカ系のレンジャーです。
未だ、国立公園の管理システムが未整備だった（NPSが未だ存在しない）1903年に、ヨセミテ国立公園の警備、整備に派遣された「Buffalo Soldiers」という、陸軍黒人部隊の歴史に光をあてて、新プログラムを開発しました。いまやヨセミテでは名物プログラム＋名物レンジャーになっています。

この秋にアメリカPBSが制作した12時間の長編テレビ番組「THE NATIONAL PARKS America's Best Idea」にも各エピソードにジョンソン氏が登場して、現場で活動するレンジャーとしての発言をしています。

Wawonaの4ヶ所。

Lower Pineは通常、11月上旬で終了です。

Big Meadow Fire Update

The Big Meadow Fire that started near Foresta is now 55% contained according to reports this morning. The fire is approximately 2 miles east of El Portal and has burned almost 5000 acres. Except for the Big Oak Flat Road between Crane Flat and the intersection with the El Portal Road, Yosemite National Park is open and as majestic as ever. The Association offices in El Portal, which were evacuated Friday evening, are now open. The residences in old El Portal and Foresta are still evacuated as the firefighters work to control the fire.
The National Park Service this morning (Monday, 8:00 am) reported that "the fire continues to burn actively ( a large column of smoke was visible yesterday) in the wildneress towards Tioga Road near Tamarack Flat and northwest in Upper Crane Creek drainage. Today, firefighters will continue to aggressively build indirect fire line away from the fires edge. The strategy is to use indirect fire line along with opportunities to conduct burnout operations (when conditions safely permit) to stop the forward progress of the fire. Firefighters will also continue to reinforce fire lines east of El Portal and around Foresta. No major fire activity was reported in these areas.
Due to fire operations, the Tioga Road between Crane Flat and White Wolf
may close or access may be limited at any time today. Visitors on the east side can access Tuolumne Meadows, Olmsted Point, and White Wolf. 日中はクレーンフラット〜ホワイトウルフ間は先導車による行列通行。夜間は通行禁止となっています。

Big Oak Flat road沿線で山火事

Tuolumne Meadowsでのキャンプを終えて、下山しました。（今夜はTracyに泊です）

昨日26日から、Big Oak Flat road沿線で山火事があり、CraneFratとYosemite Valley間は通行止になっています。（つまり、ヨセミテヴァレー〜タイオガロードが現在不通）
現在も消火作業が続いており、開通日時は未定とのことです。

120号線の通行には影響はありません。

今日、Tuolumneからの帰り、オルムステッドポイントからは、ヨセミテヴァレー方面に煙が立ちこめているのが見えていました。おそらくヴァレーの中やトンネルビュー、グレイシャーポイントなども視界がきかない状況だと思います。

求人広告を企画・発行する株式会社アイデム（新宿区新宿　代表取締役：椛山亮）http://www.aidem.co.jp/が運営するフォトギャラリー「sirius」http://www.photo-sirius.net/では、八木祥光写真展「風景写真の聖地に立つ」を8月27日（木）?9月2日（水）に開催いたします。

■写真家コメント
３２歳（１９７３年）の時にヨセミテ国立公園（アメリカ・カリフォルニア州）に訪れました。そこには２０世紀の風景写真の先駆者であるアンセル・アダムス（１９２２?８４）のミュージアムがあって、壁面に８×１０インチの写真が数点飾られ、各写真の下には微妙に焼きの異なるオリジナル写真が入った引き出しがあり、観光客が写真を選び買っていました。写真が売れることに驚き羨望を感じました。
　アダムスは、ヨセミテを拠点にアメリカ西海岸を中心に風景・人物・生物などをモノクロームで撮影し、代表作はヨセミテの風景写真です。私は風景写真の神髄を求め、ヨセミテを出発点にロッキー山脈を北上し、アラスカまで３ヶ月のアダムスの撮影地めぐりを４×５カメラに白黒フィルムを携え、心をときめかし出掛けました。今回の展覧会はその時（３６年前）の聖地巡りの写真を展示いたします。
　白黒写真はモノトーン故に奥が深く、微妙な質感を如何に出すか、昔の記憶をたどりつつ心躍らせながらフィルムをスキャニングし、インクジェットでプリントをしてみました。

Grouse/Harden Fires : 火勢はかなり衰えたようです

Activity on the Grouse and Harden fires in Yosemite National Park has slowed significantly with
the fires reaching the established boundaries that managers planned for the incidents. The
Grouse Fire is three miles southwest of Yosemite Valley and north of Glacier Point Road. The
Grouse Fire is 3,029 acres and 93 percent contained. The Harden Fire on the north side of the
park, west of Harden Lake and northwest of White Wolf is currently 1,661 acres and 95 percent
contained.

先週末２７日の煙。Tioga RoadとWhite Wolf Rdの交差点より西側数百メート地点より撮影(White Wolfの道標のあるところで、道路北側に広い路肩あり）。

Harden (37 53.624 x 119 42.221; 7800’, Tuolumne Co); Lightning-caused, probably on June 8. It is north of White Wolf, west of Harden Lake and within the 1996 Ackerson fire perimeter. It is 220 acres and burning mostly in brush and Red Fir. Fire officials are assessing the need for closures around Harden Lake, Smith Peak and the old Aspen Valley Rd.

Grouse (37 41.445 x 119 41.017; 6500’, Mariposa Co.), started May 30. It is approximately 350 acres. Personnel are working ahead of the fire implementing management actions along Steamboat Ridge to prevent northward fire spread. The fire is visible along Wawona Road (Highway 41) and Glacier Pt. Road. Please expect temporary road delays near the fire vicinity.

Yosemite Creek &, Porcupine Flat CG Open

Yosemite Creek, Porcupine Flat, and the A-loop of Bridalveil Creek Campground (including group and horse sites) are open for the season today. (M. Carter, 7/1/09)

Tioga Pass Webcam回復

かなり長い間故障していたTioga Pass Webcamが動き始めました。

Mammoth Peakは、正確には写真の外側付近に見えているはずです。
すぐ横に聳える赤茶色のDana、Gibbsに比べ、灰白色がひときわめだつ大きな三角形の山です。
(スキーで有名なMommoth Mountainとは別ものです)。

White Wolf and Tuolumne campgrounds will open today 6/19 at noon. The Tuolumne campground will all be

Yosemite : free admission this weekend

The National Park Service is offering free admission to more than 100 parks this weekend.
The fee-free weekend applies to most parks that normally charge admission, including Colonial National Historical Park ( Historic Jamestowne, Yorktown Battlefield and Cape Henry Memorial). Entrance fees, which allow access for seven days, are normally $10 per adult.

Crane Flat Campground open

Crane Flat Campground will open for the season on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 12 noon. The campground will
initially be open on a first-come, first-serve basis only. On July 1, one half of the campground will be open firstcome, first-serve, and one half will be available by advanced reservations (which began to be taken on February 15).

Trails Update:
Snow line is around 8,000 to 9,000 feet, on average.
All park trails are open, however:
* The Half Dome cables are up for the season. The cables usually remain up through Columbus Day, which is October 12 this year. (Learn more about the Half Dome hike.)
* The southern portion of the Mirror Lake Loop is closed due to a rockslide. (Access to Mirror Lake and Snow Creek Trail is still available, as usual.) Learn more about the rockfall.

Trail Conditions
Despite the recent weeks of warm weather and few storms expect winter conditions in the high country. Snow will be present on trails above 9,000 ? 10,000 feet depending on the aspect. Generally forested and shaded areas as well as north and east facing slopes hold snow later in the year than more open areas. Expect wet and muddy trails throughout the park. Please stay on the existing trails to limit resource damage and trail erosion. Always take caution crossing snow banks as they may be hollow or undercut. In addition, navigation may be difficult over snow covered areas as trails are not marked on trees, so be prepared and know how to use a map and compass. With warmer temperatures creeks and rivers are running high. Use caution when crossing or fording creeks. Some creek levels may fluctuate with the day’s temperature; a creek that was passable in the morning may not be so in the afternoon.

Trails from Yosemite Valley
All trails to and along the Valley rims are clear, though there are still some patches of snow in the Ribbon Meadow area, making route finding difficult.

The trail to Merced Lake is clear of snow, but with a significant wet and muddy section in Echo Valley.

Glacier Point Road Trails
The trail to Ostrander Lake is mostly clear of snow, with some snow patches around the lake, though camping spots are readily available.

Hetch Hetchy
The trails on the Laurel Lake, Lake Vernon, and Rancheria Falls loop are open and clear; though expect to get wet from the spray from the base of Wapama Falls.

Trails beyond Moraine Ridge will still be wet, muddy and have significant snow coverage.

Tioga Road and Tuolumne Meadows
In general, most trails leaving from Tuolumne Meadows will have significant snow coverage on them of up to 100%, making trail travel and navigation very difficult.

The trail to Glen Aulin has significant patches of snow on the trail with snow coverage of 30% - 50% at times. Dingley and Delaney creeks are running high and can be difficult to cross. Furthermore, the Tuolumne River is high and is flooding the trail in sections particularly in the glen beyond the Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp.

The Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne is very wet requiring long sections (over 100 feet) of walking through cold, standing water. In addition, there is a necessary scramble around a flooded section of trail.

The trail to Cathedral Lakes has patches of snow on the trail, making route finding difficult but possible. Beyond Cathedral Lakes there is 100% snow coverage.

The trail up Lyell Canyon is very wet and muddy throughout with patches of snow. The trail to Vogelsang has 100% snow coverage past 9,400 ft of elevation.

The trail from Tenaya Lake to Clouds Rest has 100% snow coverage and a waist to chest wade at the outlet of Tenaya Lake.

The May Lake road is open. The trail is passable, but with significant snow patches up to May Lake. The lake is still currently frozen with 90% snow coverage around the lake.

The Porcupine Creek and Yosemite Creek trails are mostly clear with minor snow patches. The Ten Lakes Basin and Ten Lakes Pass still have 100% snow coverage at this time.

The Tuolumne Meadows Sport Shop and Gas Station is now open for the season

The Tuolumne Meadows Sport Shop and Gas Station is now open for the season from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm daily with backing packing, climbing and outdoor supplies available. Climbing and hiking lesson are now offered at Curry Village and will be available in Tuolumne this July. Gas may be purchased by using a credit card at the pump 24 hours per day. Please enjoy the drive to Tuolumne and be aware of Wildlife crossing the highway - obey posted speed limits.

Visitors urged to take safety precautions for upcoming Memorial Day Weekend
Yosemite National Park Acting Superintendent Dave Uberauga announced today that the Tioga Road will open for the　season on Wednesday, May 20 at 10:00 a.m. for all vehicle traffic. The Tioga Road, bounded on both sides by State　Highway 120, is the popular east-west crossing of the Sierra Nevada. There will be no commercial services available along　the road until further notice. However, there will be gasoline available 24 hours per day (credit cards only). Additionally,　the Tuolumne Meadows Campground, other campgrounds along the corridor, and the Tuolumne Visitor Center will not be　open. There will be pit toilets available along the Tioga Road. All visitor services, including the campgrounds, store, gas　station, etc. will open over the next several weeks.

The Mariposa Grove Road is now open to public motor vehicle traffic. There is a 7 ton weight limit on the road until further notice. Shuttle bus service from Wawona to Mariposa Grove is not yet in service. (M. Dowdle - 4/21/09)

Housekeeping Camp Opens Friday, April 17, 2009. Due to construction activities on Southside Drive, access to Housekeeping Camp is available by following the orange detour signs directing visitors to Curry Village. HousekeepingCamp provides rustic overnight accommodations, a store, and public laundry facilities. 4月24日　Glacier Point Rd. 開通予定？

すでにッ除雪は終り、道路を広げる仕事に入っているようです。来週は道路のパッチワークを終え、24日には開通のようですが．．．　

Glacier Point Road
Crew is continuing to widen the road and clear the parking lot. As of now the main spot of concern regarding road width is　from summit meadow to Badger. That area will be widened this morning and the dozers will be able to be hauled starting　today. Next week we will be patching and repairing the roadway in various locations.The fuel truck is scheduled to be　delivered to the 140 /120 junction tomorrow. Tentative opening date will be April 24, 2009 pending any additional storms　or safety concerns.

Campground Updates - As of Friday, April 10, the Hodgdon Meadow Campground is on reservations, and the B and C loops of the Wawona Campground are open (Wawona will remain open on first-come, first-serve basis until the campground paving project is complete--specific dates for the project are unknown at this time. As soon as the project is completed, the campground will be put back on the reservation system). (M. Carter - 4/10/09)

ミストトレイル開通

ミストトレイル（ハッピーアイル〜ネヴァダ滝）が今シーズン開通しています。
JMTの「アイスカット」部分はまだクローズのようです。

The Mist Trail is now open for the season. The "Ice Cut", Clark Point to Nevada Fall, on the John Muir Trail is still closed due to hazardous ice build up. (K. Watson - 4/3/09)

ヨセミテ　4月4日

本日のヨセミテの写真です。積雪は、特に少ないようにはみえませんでした。
根拠のない予想ですが、Tioga Passが開くのは5月の後半と思われます。

左からHalf Dome、Sentinel Dome、Valley Floor、El Capitan、そしてNorth Dome。

Olmsted Pt（写真中央の白い斜面付近)とTenaya Lake（右側の白く平らな部分）。Olmsted Pt.付近のTioga Roadがかすかに見えています。肉眼では斜面に雪崩の跡が確認できました。左側の山はTuolumne Peak(その左側にあるMt. Hofmannは写っていません）。

Conditions Update

NPSのConditions Updateでは、早春のヨセミテ滝の写真が掲載されています。

ヴァレーフロアでは雪もほとんど消え、ライブカメラでは山間部にちらほら残雪が見える程度です。
ヨセミテでも春の訪れが早そうですね。

2009夏シーズン・キャンプ場予約

ヨセミテ国立公園の2009夏シーズン（6/15-7/14分）のキャンプ場予約が2月15日午前7時（PST）から開始されます。

また、過去の予約歴のあるユーザーには以下の案内がありました。
Bridalvail Creek,Clane Flat,Tuolumne Meadowsの6/15-7/14分の受付も2月15日午前7時（PST）から。
