「もしも○○が出来たなら……」。そんな夢や希望を追いかけて、スノーボードに明け暮れた人生。自分自身が本当に求めているモノ、その欲求に素直に一歩踏み出してみる。ふと気がつくと、彼女は在るがままの自然の中を、ひとり、歩いていました。「真実の自然」の存在を滑ることで感じた時、彼女の中の何かが確かに変わった。スノーボードを通して見えてきた、社会の向こう側にあった彼女にとって本当に大切なことを、スライドを交えてお話していただきます。
スピーカー・プロフィール
1979年、北海道生まれ。スノーボード歴16年。10代の頃アルペンレーサーとしてプロになるが、自分のスノーボーディングに疑問を抱き、早々とプロ資格を返上して渡米。現在はアメリカカリフォルニア州シエラネバダ山中にひっそりと暮らし、バックカントリーを徘徊する日々を送る。

ヨセミテ国立公園には、3っの100周年記念があります。
[1] 1864年：ヨセミテ渓谷(及びMariposa Grove)がカリフォルニア州立公園になりました。
[2] 1890年：ヨセミテ渓谷を囲む一帯が国立公園になりました(渓谷、Mariposa Groveを除く)
[3] 1906年：ヨセミテ渓谷が連邦に返還され、国立公園となります（ほぼ現在の公園と同じになる）。
1906年8月には（公園長でもある）Benson少佐指揮下の第14騎兵隊がヨセミテ渓谷に移動し、現在のYosemite Lodge付近に本部を設営します。以後NPSが出来るまでの10年近く、公園のパトロールをすることになります。

Yosemite Centennial Month – Did you know that Yosemite National Park has actually had three 100th anniversaries? The Yosemite Grant of 1864 gave the State of California control of Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove “for public use, resort, and recreation….” The Yosemite Act of 1890 acted on John Muir’s suggestions to create a “Yosemite forest reservation”-soon changed to Yosemite National Park-surrounding the original Grant lands. A third act in 1906 provided for the Yosemite Grant’s return to the federal government. In August of that year, acting superintendent Major Harry Benson of the Fourteenth Cavalry established headquarters on the site of the present Yosemite Lodge, marking the beginning of a unified Yosemite National Park much like we know it today. 来年6月は、ヨセミテ渓谷とマリポサグローブが州立公園から、国立公園に編入することが決定してから100年目となります。以下は、ルーズベルト大統領がサインした法案の見出しです。
U.S. Statutes at Large, Vol. 34, Part 1, Resolution No. 27, pp. 831-32. “Joint Resolution Accepting the recession by the State of California of the Yosemite Valley Grant and the Mariposa Big Tree Grove, and including the same, together with fractional sections five and six, township five south, range twenty-two east, Mount Diablo meridian, California, within the metes and bounds of the Yosemite National Park, and changing the boundaries thereof.”

全文は議会図書館のサーチで「H.R. 118 yosemite」と入力、最初のアイテムをクリック。さらに”View this item”をクリック。”township five south, range twenty-two east, Mount Diablo meridian, California,…”と言うのは、Public Land Survey Systemと言う1700年代から使われていた測量地図系での座標です。

Tom Frost will present a talk at 7:00 PM in the West Auditorium.? Tom Frost is a major climbing figure from the 50s and 60s, contributed to gear design and climbing philosophy, helped Yvon Chouinard set up Patagonia, is in the Vertical Frontiers movie, is a well known American Alpine Club member, and worked with the Service to nominate Camp 4 to the National Register.? これは月例で行われる講演会で、ヨセミテおよびシエラネヴァダにまつわるさまざまな分野の研究者がゲストスピーカーとして招かれています。

「YOSEMITE OUTDOOR ADVENTURE」はThe Yosemite Association(Y.A.)が主催する自然体験セミナーです。
１月から１１月まで、アート＆ライティング、天文、鳥類、歴史と文化、ファミリー向け、バックパッキング、デイハイク、先住民、自然誌、アウトドア技術、写真、野生動物調査体験、ワイルドフラワー、など多彩なテーマで行われます。
以前は「Field Seminar」の名前で開催されていましたが、昨年から名前が変わりました。
Y.A.メンバーには2005年のカタログが送付されています。
